Secondary Schools

Secondary chess has been quiet for a prolonged period of time but Chess Edinburgh, Lothian Primary School Chess League and others are starting to get secondary chess back in the focus of chess playing members of the community. Part of this is the updates on secondary chess on the website.

Lothian Secondary Individual Chess Tournament

Date: Sunday, January 22nd 2005

Venue: Wester Hailes Education Centre, Wester Hailes Rd, Edinburgh
(full cafeteria facilities are available all day)

Time: Round 1 will commence at 10am - Please arrive around 9.30am. This is not a ‘knock-out’ event and all competitors will play 6 games of chess (50 minutes per game).

Round times: 10am, 11am, 12am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm (approx). Prize ceremony around 4.45pm (Cash prizes dependent upon entry).

Open to: Any individual attending a secondary school in Lothians

Entry fee: £5 (£4 if member of Chess Scotland)

The event will have 2 sections depending upon players’ grade and experience: (i) the Premier section (results graded on Allegro list) and (ii) the Challengers section (results graded on the main list). Players may request to enter either section though the organisers reserve the right to allocate entrants to the section they feel most appropriate.
