Summary of the Minutes of the Chess Edinburgh Council Meeting held at 19.30 at the Loanhead Miners Welfare Club, 74 The Loan, LOANHEAD on Monday September 9th 2013.

The following issues were discussed by the Council:

Edinburgh Chess League


Letters to club secretaries will be sent out this week; the deadline for entries is the 28th September 2013. Two teams defaulted last season and will have to each pay a �10 penalty. The League is expecting applications from Dunbar Chess Club and Napier University Chess Club: Lasswade Chess Club is to disband. The Bank of Scotland has secured new premises for the coming season at the Ukrainian Club in Royal Terrace.

Edinburgh Allegro Chess League


The Allegro League is due to commence its new season on Thursday 10th October 2013 at the Original Rosslyn Inn. Five teams defaulted at some stage last season; each will lose its �10 deposit.

Lothians Allegro


Wester Hailes Education Centre (WHEC) has been booked for Sunday 12th January 2014.

Summer Cup/Plate


The 2014 Summer Cup Final will be played on the 18th September 2013 and will be contested by Corstorphine I and Edinburgh. The Plate final was played in June 2013: Badgers Brook defeated Wandering Dragons III.

Edinburgh Chess Congress


Subject to final confirmation later this month a suitable venue has been sourced for the 2014 Congress

Lothians Congress


All is in place for the Congress to be staged on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd September 2013.

Primary & Secondary Schools


The Lothian Primary Schools Chess League is set for its new season with three events planned to take place at WHEC over the coming months. Details can be found on the League�s website via www.lothianschoolchess.org.uk/.

Sub-Committee�s Proposals for Changes to Council Working


A properly constituted sub-committee of the CE Council produced the following recommendations:

1 Review CE�s arrangements regarding appeals � Proposal; no change (current appeal procedures are considered adequate)

2 Publish CE Minutes on the CE website � Proposal; publish a summary with key points noted

3 Produce CE Minutes within two weeks of the meeting � Proposal; accepted as stated.

4 Put in place arrangements such as sub-committees with delegated powers to meet between meetings, if necessary � Proposal; no change, as current arrangements already allow for this

5 All Council Members to have email � Proposal; all new members to have an email address

6. All Council Members to be active chess players � Proposal; all Council Members (with the exception of the Primary Schools and Secondary Schools Representatives) to be a member of a club affiliated to the Edinburgh Chess League.

The Council agreed to adopt all recommendations as stated above.

Date of Next Meeting


The date of the next meeting was agreed to be held on Monday 25th November 2013 at the Loanhead Miners Welfare Club, 74 The Loan, LOANHEAD at 7.30pm.
