2. Challengers - Grading Limit 1900
3. Major - Grading Limit 1600
4. Minor - Grading Limit 1300

1st Prize £100 & Midlothian Cup

The Smerdon Trophy, in memory of Bill Smerdon, will be presented to the highest finisher in the Open who is resident in the Lothians.

Challengers, Major, & Minor
1st Prize £50 & Trophy
2nd Prize £25
3rd Prize £15

In the Minor Event, the highest placed junior, under 16 (on the day of the tournament) and within the grading limit of 1000, will receive £20.

Juniors (under 16) - £5
Adults - £10

Entries should be received by Monday 24th September. Chess Scotland members may deduct £1

Tournament Details

All Events: Five round Swiss tournament played under Rapidplay Rules (Allegro) of Chess Scotland

Time Limits: 30 minutes per player for all moves

  • Round 1 10.00 to 11.00
  • Round 2 11.30 to 12.30
    Short Lunch Break
  • Round 3 1.15 to 2.15
  • Round 4 2.45 to 3.45
  • Round 5 4.15 to 5.15
Prize Giving will be at 5.30pm approximately

Conditions

The organisers reserve the right to:

  • Increase or decrease prize money.
  • Transfer entrants between events.
  • Split or merge events depending on numbers.
  • Withhold prizes from ungraded players if they
    play in events below their known strength.
  • Take any other measures deemed necessary to
    ensure the smooth running of the tournament.
