Edinburgh Congress 2010

The Edinburgh Congress 2010 has now passed. We hope all the competitors enjoyed the event. Please come back next year when the format will be likely to be similar to the details below.

1. Premier - Open (the event will be FIDE Rated. All entrants must be a member of a National Chess Association.)

2. Challengers - Grading limit 1900/163

3. Major - Grading limit 1700/138

4. Bishops - Grading limit 1500/113

5. Knights - Grading limit 1300/88

Premier:
1st Prize £500
2nd Prize £250
Grading prizes 2 x £50

Other events:
1st Prize £150
2nd Prize £70
Grading Prize 1 x £30

Additional Prizes:
Giant Killing and Best Game, £30 for each prize
Edinburgh Evening News Cup - This will be presented to the highest placed junior, in the Premier, under 18 on the 31 March 2010 normally resident in Scotland. A prize of £30 will also be awarded.

All Events - £23

Discounts (All events)

A discount of £2 is given if one of the following categories applies:
Over 60, unemployed, school pupil or full time student.

A further discount of £2 is given for membership of any Chess Association.

GMs and IMs will be given free entry.

Entries received after the 29th March will be charged an extra £2.00.

Tournament Details

Rates of play: 30 moves in 90 minutes followed by
Quickplay Finish of 30 minutes.

  • Friday, Round 1 - 18.30 to 22.30
  • Saturday, Round 2 - 10.00 to 14.00
  • Saturday, Round 3 - 15.00 to 19.00
  • Sunday, Round 4 - 10.00 to 14.00
  • Sunday, Round 5 - 15.00 to 19.00
Prize Giving will be at 19.30 approximately

Conditions

The organisers reserve the right to:

  • Increase or decrease prize money.
  • Transfer entrants between events.
  • Withhold prizes from ungraded players if they play in events below their known strength.
  • Take any other measures deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running of the congress.
  • Refreshments available in the Refectory
    Friday 18.30 – 21.00  Sat & Sun 9.30 – 15.00
  • Smoking and ball games are prohibited in the School and its Grounds.
  • Mobile phones must be switched off in the playing area!!!!
  • Arbiters’ decisions on matters of play are final.
